There is a growing movement in the country and on Long Island to become better stewards of our planet. This effort involves reducing or eliminating much of the chemical fertilizer , weed killers and other harmful things that migrate into our groundwater and eventually our bays.
The SCSCA has approved a plan for our neighborhood to be called “South Country Shores Healthier Yards”. The goal of this program is to encourage and educate our neighbors on more ecologically sound practices to reduce and hopefully some day eliminate nitrogen and other pollution in our bay.
Here’s how it works. Residents will sign a pledge to make their property healthier and be given a handsome yard sign to display that their yard is a “healthier yard” in the hope that this movement spreads. Each sign is $20 per yard, it should be emphasized that this program is voluntary and not a requirement. It is the hope of the civic association that this kind of movement grows and eventually benefits our neighborhood and bay.
